Soverin The European alternative to Gmail / Outlook

Soverin is an independent email provider from Soverin B.V. based in Amsterdam, founded in 2014. The service includes webmail, calendar, contacts, and tasks as well as synchronization via IMAP, SMTP, CalDAV, and CardDAV. Each mailbox offers 25 GB of storage and unlimited aliases. Soverin is used by individuals and small businesses that value privacy and an ad-free inbox.

Soverin operates its own hardware in three data centers in the Netherlands. No US cloud services such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure are used. Hard drives use disc encryption and transport runs exclusively over TLS, complemented by SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and DANE. Soverin is ISO 27001 certified. End-to-end encryption with user-controlled keys (such as PGP) is not part of the service, encryption keys are held by Soverin. Soverin is registered as a Dutch B.V. and is subject to Dutch and European law.

Soverin does not scan emails for advertising and is funded exclusively through subscription fees. Gmail uses email content for advertising profiles (in the free tiers). Soverin stores data exclusively in the Netherlands, while Gmail uses globally distributed US data centers under the CLOUD Act. Gmail offers a significantly larger ecosystem (Workspace, Drive, Meet) and AI features, while Soverin focuses on a lean email solution with privacy.
