What is Murena and what is it used for? +
Murena is a French company that sells deGoogled Android smartphones with its own /e/OS operating system. /e/OS is a LineageOS-based Android fork that replaces Google services with microG. Murena Retail SAS runs the consumer shop while the /e/ Foundation oversees OS development. Available products include Murena editions of Fairphone and Pixel devices as well as the Murena Workspace (mail, drive, office).
Does Murena run on European infrastructure? +
Murena's email and cloud servers are located in Finland and run on renewable energy. The /e/OS operating system completely removes Google services and replaces them with open-source alternatives. A Privacy Shield blocks trackers and data leaks. Murena does not scan user data, does not log app usage, and does not sell data. All software is publicly auditable.
What is the difference between /e/OS and standard Android? +
/e/OS is a fully deGoogled Android fork without Google services, Google ID, or Google connection. Instead, open-source alternatives are used: microG for API compatibility and MagicEarth for maps. Most Android apps continue to work, but some Google-dependent apps require workarounds such as the Aurora Store. The Murena Workspace Cloud offers 1 GB free, larger plans from 1.99 euros per month.
