openHAB runs completely locally on own hardware (Raspberry Pi, NAS, server) without cloud requirement. Thus, the platform is GDPR-compliant by design, as no data is transmitted to third parties. Optionally, the myopenHAB cloud service can be used for remote access, hosted free of charge by the openHAB Foundation in Germany. The software is open source under the EPL-2.0 license.
What distinguishes openHAB from Google Home? +
openHAB is open source and vendor-independent (over 400 integrations), while Google Home focuses on the Google/Nest ecosystem. openHAB runs locally without cloud requirement and collects no data.
