mailbox.org The European alternative to Google Workspace

mailbox.org is a German email provider from Heinlein Hosting GmbH in Berlin, launched on February 20, 2014 (roots go back to JPBerlin from 1989). The service was developed in response to global surveillance affairs. The integrated suite includes mail with PGP and S/MIME support, cloud storage (Drive), video conferencing (OpenTalk), collaborative office, and contacts/calendar. Custom domains are supported in all paid plans.

mailbox.org operates its own dedicated servers in two geographically separated data centers in Berlin. The infrastructure is fully owned by Heinlein Hosting GmbH and does not run on rented root servers or third-party cloud services. The servers are powered by green electricity. mailbox.org is ISO 27001 and BSI C5 Type 1 certified. No data is transferred abroad, and the company is exclusively subject to German law and the GDPR. According to the transparency report, mailbox.org rejects approximately a quarter of all government requests.

mailbox.org offers IMAP import, which allows mails from Gmail or other providers to be automatically transferred to the mailbox. Calendar and contacts can be imported via CalDAV/CardDAV and ICS/VCF files. Custom domains can be set up in all paid plans, so existing business email addresses can continue to be used.
