What is Disroot and what is it used for? +

Disroot is a volunteer-run project founded in 2015 in Amsterdam, bundling a suite of free services: email, cloud (Nextcloud), collaborative documents (CryptPad, Etherpad), XMPP chat, audio chats, pastebin, Git hosting (Forgejo), search (Searx), translation (LibreTranslate), and password vault (Vaultwarden). All services are based on free and open-source software. The project is funded by donations and has no commercial business model.

Does Disroot run on European infrastructure? +

Disroot is operated in the Netherlands on its own hardware and is subject to the GDPR. There is no tracking, no advertising, no profiling, and no data sales. Since the service runs on a donation basis, there are no business model incentives to monetize data. No AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure is used. The entire infrastructure is physically located in the Netherlands.

Which services are included in Disroot? +

Disroot bundles around a dozen free services: email (1 GB standard, expandable by donation), cloud (2 GB standard, Nextcloud-based), Etherpad, EtherCalc, Disroot Forms, XMPP (chat), Jitsi Meet (video), PrivateBin, Forgejo (Git hosting), Searx (search), LibreTranslate (translation), and Vaultwarden (Bitwarden-compatible password server). The services are federated and can be used with standard clients. The recommended donation is 0.15 euros per GB per year for mail and 0.12 euros per GB per year for cloud storage.
