Mullvad VPN is a Swedish VPN service operated by Mullvad VPN AB, based in Gothenburg. Registration requires neither an email address nor a phone number; instead, each user receives a randomly generated 16-digit account number. The service supports the WireGuard and OpenVPN protocols and offers a kill switch, multi-hop routing, and encrypted DNS within the VPN tunnel. Additionally, Mullvad developed the Mullvad Browser together with the Tor Project, offering anti-fingerprinting protection without the Tor network.

Mullvad operates its own servers as well as dedicated rented servers, all of which run without hard drives and boot exclusively from RAM (RAM-only). This migration to a fully diskless infrastructure was completed in 2023 and verified through independent audits. Some servers are hosted at 31173 Services, with dedicated fiber wavelengths between Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Paris, Malmö, and Zurich. Additional servers run through DataPacket at over 38 locations worldwide, including numerous European locations.

Mullvad charges a flat rate of 5 euros per month with no volume discounts or long-term contracts. The no-logs policy was confirmed in practice in 2023 when Swedish authorities found no user data during a search of the Gothenburg office. The complete source code of the apps is publicly available and is regularly independently audited. Payment options include Bitcoin, Monero, or anonymous cash sent by letter.
