Kdenlive The European alternative to Adobe Premiere / Final Cut

Kdenlive is a free and open-source video editor developed by the KDE community and released under the GPL license. The software offers a multi-track timeline with audio and video tracks, effects, transitions, and title tools for non-linear video editing. Kdenlive is built on the MLT framework and FFmpeg, which gives it support for a broad range of video formats and codecs. The name stands for KDE Non-Linear Video Editor, and the trademark is held by KDE e.V., a non-profit association based in Germany. Hobbyists, YouTubers, educators, and semi-professional videographers use it for everyday editing work.

Kdenlive is a local desktop application and does not depend on any cloud service for editing or exporting videos. All editing, preview, and rendering happens on the user device, with no project data sent to external servers. Development is coordinated by KDE e.V., a registered non-profit based in Berlin, Germany. Source code and releases are distributed through KDE infrastructure located in Europe. No connection to US cloud providers is required for normal use.

Kdenlive runs natively on Linux, Windows, macOS, and BSD, covering all common desktop operating systems. On Linux, official packages are available in most distributions along with AppImage and Flatpak builds. Windows users get a standard installer and macOS users a DMG image. Functionality is largely identical across platforms, so projects can be moved between systems. There is no mobile or pure web version.
