Reed The European alternative to Breathwrk

Reed is a breathing exercise app for iPhone (iOS 16.4 or later) from a sole trader in Barcelona. The app contains ten guided sessions: five breathwork exercises (Box Breathing, 4-7-8, Coherence, Energize, Cyclic Sighing) and five pranayama techniques (Ujjayi, Nadi Shodhana, Kapalabhati, Bhramari, Bhastrika). An animated orb sets the breathing rhythm. Before and after each session, mood is rated on a five-point scale and the change is shown. There is also a free six-week course, and the app is available in English and Spanish.

According to the privacy policy, Reed keeps almost all data on the iPhone, and it is not backed up to any server operated by the provider. According to the provider, health information is never transmitted or shared. For subscriptions Reed uses Apple and RevenueCat, and the website runs on Vercel; RevenueCat and Vercel are established in the USA, and transfers are based on standard contractual clauses. The provider uses Apple Ads for promotion, and the website itself runs no analytics.

The free version includes all ten exercises without a time limit and the history of the last 14 sessions. Reed Pro adds custom ratio-based breathing patterns, pinning to the home screen, full history with trends and insights, reminders, an automatic time-of-day theme and additional sounds. Completed sessions can be logged to Apple Health as mindful minutes, and the app does not read health data. No account is required in either the free or the Pro version.
