Kontier The European alternative to Chargebee

Kontier is a billing platform for companies with recurring revenue, such as SaaS vendors, API platforms or marketplaces. From price catalogs, user licenses and usage events, Kontier generates invoices that meet European requirements. It supports XRechnung under EN 16931, ZUGFeRD and EU VAT under the OSS scheme. Payment collection runs via SEPA direct debit, Stripe or GoCardless, including dunning and retries. The vendor is Frontier Algorithmics UG (haftungsbeschränkt) from Aichach.

According to the privacy policy, Kontier uses servers from IONOS and STRATO in Germany, and email delivery runs via Scaleway in France. AWS, Google Cloud or Azure are not named as hosting. Stripe is used for payment processing, where a transfer to the US is possible on the basis of the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The website runs a self-hosted Umami instance, and Google Ads conversion tracking only loads after consent. For organizations with special requirements, an on-premise version on in-house infrastructure is available.

The Starter plan costs EUR 199 net per month and covers up to EUR 15,000 in monthly recurring revenue, with a revenue share of 0.8 percent above that. Scale costs EUR 499 per month up to EUR 80,000 in revenue, then 0.5 percent. Enterprise costs EUR 1,899 per month with no revenue cap, and the on-premise version is priced individually. Starter and Scale can be tested free of charge for 14 days with real data, and all plans can be cancelled monthly.
