Frequently asked questions about Memofluent
What is Memofluent and what is it used for? +
Memofluent is a vocabulary flashcard app that combines spaced repetition with example sentences from real texts. Learning modes are flip cards, adaptive learning and graded tests, plus a grammar mode for supported languages. Learning sets by CEFR level are available for English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish and Polish. Memofluent runs in the browser and as an iPhone app, and an Android app has been announced. Teachers can create courses and invite learners by email.
Does Memofluent run on European infrastructure? +
According to the privacy policy, user data is stored on a server in the EU, without naming the hosting provider. The AI functions, however, run through US providers: looking up words and creating cards from text or photos is processed by Google (Gemini API, Google Translate), Groq, OpenRouter or 1min.AI, or alternatively by MyMemory from Italy. The submitted word, text or image is transmitted, and processing may take place outside the EU. RevenueCat and Expo from the US, Apple and Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging are also used for Pro activation and push notifications. Sign-in via Google or Apple is optional, and registration by email is also possible.
How does Memofluent create flashcards from your own texts? +
The text to set function processes texts, images or screenshots, such as articles, book pages or subtitles. This produces cards with words at the learner's level, their translation and the original sentence. The free plan includes two text imports and one photo import per day, and Pro removes these limits. For this, the content is transmitted to the AI providers named in the privacy policy, most of which are based in the US. Cards can also be created manually or through list import.
