Crypt.ee The European alternative to Google Drive / Google Photos

Crypt.ee is an end-to-end encrypted service for documents, notes, diaries, and photos based in Tallinn, Estonia. The platform supports Markdown, mathematical formulas (KaTeX), tables, checklists, and photo albums with hashtag organization. Crypt.ee uses a zero-knowledge architecture with AES-256 encryption, where encryption takes place entirely in the browser. No personal data is required for registration, and anonymous usernames are possible. The application runs as a Progressive Web App in the browser and can optionally be installed as a native app.

Crypt.ee operates its own servers in Europe and is based in Estonia, which is part of the EU but outside the 14 Eyes surveillance alliance. Data access by authorities is only possible with an Estonian court order. The zero-knowledge architecture ensures that even in case of disclosure, only encrypted data can be handed over. No US cloud services such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure are used for data storage. The company is subject to EU data protection law and the GDPR.

Ghost Folders are hidden folders and albums that are not visible in the standard interface and can only be opened by directly typing the folder name. This feature is designed to provide additional protection against forced access, for example at border controls or under government pressure. If a third party gains access to the account, the Ghost Folders cannot be found and their existence can be denied. The content remains end-to-end encrypted in addition to being hidden.
