Scaleway The European alternative to AWS / Google Cloud

Scaleway is a French cloud provider from Paris, subsidiary of the iliad Group (Free Mobile). The platform offers public cloud (compute, storage, databases, Kubernetes), bare metal servers, object storage (S3-compatible), managed databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB), AI/ML services (NVIDIA H100 GPUs), and IoT. Data centers are located in Paris, Amsterdam, and Warsaw. Scaleway offers ARM-based instances and targets European tech startups and SMEs.

Scaleway operates all data centers exclusively in the EU: Paris (PAR1, PAR2, PAR3), Amsterdam (AMS1), and Warsaw (WAW1). The Paris data centers are powered by hydropower and adiabatic cooling (no water consumption for cooling). Scaleway is ISO 27001 certified and has committed to a "Trust Strategy" under which customer data cannot be accessed by US authorities. As a subsidiary of the French iliad Group, Scaleway is subject to EU law and not subject to the US CLOUD Act.

Scaleway hosts exclusively in the EU and offers European data sovereignty as a core promise. Prices are generally cheaper than AWS for comparable performance. ARM-based instances have been available for years. However, AWS has a much broader service portfolio, especially for managed services and global availability. Scaleway is particularly suitable for European companies that value EU data residency and open standards.
