Frequently asked questions about OVHcloud

What is OVHcloud and what is it used for? +

OVHcloud is a French cloud provider headquartered in Roubaix, founded in 1999. With around 1.6 million customers worldwide and 46 data centers on four continents, OVHcloud is the largest European cloud provider. Offerings include public cloud (compute, storage, networking, databases, AI/ML), private cloud (VMware, Nutanix, SAP HANA), dedicated servers, VPS, web hosting, domains, and mail. OVHcloud completely waives egress fees for data transfer.

Does OVHcloud run on European infrastructure? +

OVHcloud designs and produces its servers in-house in its own factories in France and Canada. Data centers are located in France, Germany, the UK, Poland, Canada, the USA, Australia, and Singapore. For sensitive French government data, OVHcloud is SecNumCloud certified (highest French cloud security level). OVHcloud is listed on Euronext Paris, subject to French and EU law, and not subject to the US CLOUD Act. The "Reversible Cloud Architecture" with open standards aims to prevent vendor lock-in.

What distinguishes OVHcloud from AWS? +

OVHcloud completely waives egress fees, while AWS charges up to 0.09 US dollars per GB for outgoing data traffic. According to OVHcloud, its own server designs require seven times less water for cooling than comparable hyperscalers. OVHcloud offers open standards and a "Reversible Cloud Architecture" against vendor lock-in. AWS has the larger service portfolio and more global regions, but is more expensive and subject to US law.
