Collabora Online The European alternative to Google Workspace / Microsoft 365 Online

Collabora Online is an open-source online office suite based on LibreOffice, developed by Collabora Productivity Ltd., headquartered in Cambridge (UK). The platform enables real-time collaboration on text documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and drawings directly in the browser. Compatibility with Microsoft Office formats is high. Collabora integrates with Nextcloud, ownCloud, Seafile, Mattermost, and Moodle.

Collabora Online is typically self-hosted or operated through EU hosting partners such as Nextcloud, IONOS, Hetzner, or Univention. With over 230 hosting partners worldwide, numerous European providers are available. Data does not leave the user's own infrastructure. The code is available under the Mozilla Public License and is independently auditable. The free developer edition (CODE) can be run on own hardware.

Collabora Online can be integrated with Nextcloud in a few clicks via the Nextcloud app "Nextcloud Office." Users can then collaboratively edit DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX files directly from the Nextcloud interface without files leaving Nextcloud. Many hosting providers already include Collabora in their Nextcloud packages. The commercial version with long-term support costs from 19.50 euros per user per year.
