Tobachat The European alternative to Twilio

Tobachat is a web application from the Netherlands that businesses use to handle customer communication over WhatsApp. Teams work in a shared inbox that shows who is handling which conversation. It also offers automatic replies, flows, campaigns, appointment reminders, order updates and review collection. According to the provider, target groups include webshops, hotels and rental businesses. Tobachat is an official Meta Tech Provider, and numbers are connected through Meta's sign-up screen and kept. Customers pay Meta's message fees directly to Meta.

Only in part, the sub-processor list names several US services. Database, sign-in and file storage run at Supabase (Supabase Pte. Ltd.) in the EU region. WhatsApp messages run through WhatsApp Ireland (Meta) with processing in Ireland and worldwide, and AI features run through Google Cloud EMEA, also in Ireland and worldwide. Website, network and backups run through Cloudflare (worldwide), payments through Stripe (Ireland and the US), account emails through Resend (US), error monitoring through Sentry (EU and US), and maintenance jobs and backups through GitHub (US). For transfers outside the EEA, the provider cites the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.

The AI agent answers questions based on sources the business provides, such as a website, a PDF or short facts. It hands unanswered questions, complaints and refund requests to a person, with the reason attached. Once a team member replies, it stays out of the conversation and can take over again later. A test mode lets users review drafts before the agent replies on its own, and customers are told that replies come from an AI assistant. According to the privacy policy, the AI provider does not train on the data but may keep inputs and outputs for a limited time to detect abuse.
