Frequently asked questions about Devana

What is Devana and what is it used for? +

Devana is a messenger for teams and communities, run by a private individual from Poland. Users create a space, divide it into rooms and invite people, with roles governing visibility and permissions. Apps are available for web, Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. The free Community space for communities is currently available. The PRO plans for businesses have not launched yet, and interested parties can join a waitlist. Users must be at least 16 years old to create an account.

Does Devana run on European infrastructure? +

According to the privacy policy, all service data including backups and the email server is hosted by webh.pl in a data centre in Łódź. For push notifications, Devana uses Google Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android and the Apple Push Notification service on iOS and macOS. Both services receive the sender's name and all or part of the message text, and processing may take place in the USA. Cloudflare Turnstile is used at sign-in and sign-up and receives the IP address and browser data. The PRO form runs through Tally, and embedded YouTube videos can be turned off in the settings. The App Store label maintained by the provider lists device ID and crash data, among others, as linked to the user's identity, and also names analytics purposes.

Are messages on Devana end-to-end encrypted? +

No, the privacy policy explicitly states that messages are not end-to-end encrypted. Devana technically has access to the content and, by its own account, uses it only in listed cases, such as handling reports, security, fixing failures or legal obligations. Connections to the app and websites are secured with TLS, and passwords are stored only as hashes. Multi-factor authentication is available. Deleted data is removed from backups within 21 days at most.
