Stelae is a hosting service from a German provider based in Türkheim, Bavaria, that combines WordPress with static hosting. Users edit their site in a private WordPress container in the cloud and publish it as static HTML with one click. The published site contains no PHP and no database, removing the usual attack surface. The editor sleeps when idle and activates within seconds when needed.

Does Stelae run on European infrastructure? +

According to the provider, the editing and backup infrastructure runs entirely in Germany via IONOS, email delivery via Scaleway in France and payment via Mollie in the Netherlands. AWS, Google Cloud and Azure are not used. Personal data does not leave the EEA. The published live site is served by the host chosen by the user, such as statichost.eu, Cloudflare Workers or a Git host.

Which websites is Stelae suitable for? +

Stelae suits content-focused sites such as blogs, portfolios, company and campaign pages that can be served as static HTML. Features that require an active server, such as comments or dynamic forms, are not available on a purely static site. Existing themes, plugins and page builders can still be used in the editor. A static archive or a full WordPress backup can be downloaded at any time.
