Open Telekom Cloud The European alternative to AWS / Azure

Open Telekom Cloud (marketed under the name T Cloud Public since 2025) is the public cloud platform of Deutsche Telekom AG, operated by T-Systems International. The platform offers compute, storage, databases, container services, AI features, and disaster recovery. It is used by companies and government agencies that require a public cloud under exclusively German law for regulatory or strategic reasons. The open APIs are based on OpenStack and avoid vendor lock-in.

Open Telekom Cloud runs in German data centers of Deutsche Telekom, primarily in Biere near Magdeburg and in Frankfurt. The data centers are certified to the Trusted Cloud Data Protection Profile (TCDP), a privacy audit built on BSI standards. Additionally, a TISAX level 3 certification exists. No US cloud providers are used in the stack. Data is subject exclusively to German and European law.

Open Telekom Cloud is German and not subject to the US CLOUD Act. AWS belongs to Amazon (USA) and is subject to the CLOUD Act. Open Telekom Cloud uses OpenStack as an open base, AWS has a proprietary API. AWS offers a significantly broader product portfolio (over 200 services), while Open Telekom Cloud focuses on core IaaS and compliance requirements for German authorities and companies.
