Bitwig Studio The European alternative to Ableton Live / FL Studio

Bitwig Studio is a digital audio workstation developed by Bitwig GmbH in Berlin. It is used for music production, sound design, and electronic live performance and combines a linear arrangement view with a clip launcher. Bitwig focuses on modular workflows, modulation on nearly every parameter, and an open approach to plugins. The software is available in several editions, including Bitwig Studio, Producer, and Essentials, which differ in feature scope. It is used by electronic music producers, sound designers, and experimental artists.

Bitwig Studio is downloadable software that runs locally on Windows, macOS, and Linux without requiring a permanent cloud connection. Bitwig GmbH is registered in Berlin (HRB 120069 B at the Charlottenburg court) and runs development, support, and distribution from there. Account and licence services are operated through the company's own infrastructure. Updates and downloads are delivered via the official Bitwig servers. Native Linux support has been part of the product since its first release.

The Grid is a modular sound design environment inside Bitwig Studio that lets users build their own instruments, effects, and modulators from individual blocks. It uses modules for oscillators, filters, envelopes, logic, and audio routing that are connected by drag-and-drop. The Grid comes in several variants, including the Poly Grid for polyphonic synthesizers, the FX Grid for effects, and the Note Grid for processing note and modulation data. With it, users can build simple patches as well as complex modular structures directly inside the DAW. The Grid integrates tightly with Bitwig's overall modulation system, so almost any parameter can be controlled dynamically.
